Writer: Adrian Allan (1943-2022)
Adrian Allan read Modern History at the University of Durham, followed by the Diploma in the Study of Records and Administration of Archives at the University of Liverpool. Following work at the Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk Record Office, he joined the staff of Liverpool University, retiring as University Archivist in 2008. He served on the Council of CWAAS (Hon. Membership Secretary, 2013- 17, and Hon. Archivist, from 2017 onwards) and the committees of FoCAS and the Cumbria Local History Federation.
Adrian died unexpectedly on 21 June 2022 in Carlisle and the editors of Cumbrian Lives are grateful to acknowledge here his meticulous contributions to this project.
